Getting back to work after a decade: Adrian’s story
After being out of work for nearly 12 years, a change of personal circumstances meant that Adrian, aged 62 from West Yorkshire, needed to get back into work. His Job Centre Work Coach introduced him to Liam, a Making A Difference Employment Coach. Liam talked through how he could help Adrian and they determined the support offered would be a good fit for his needs.
Adrian’s main goal from participation in the Making A Difference programme was to regain employment as a welder, a job he had done for 40 years prior to his time out of work.
Alongside his 1:1 sessions with Liam, Adrian joined a range of Making A Difference workshops on CV writing and interview techniques.
Adrian and Liam had discussed Adrian’s main barriers to gaining employment and determined that a key barrier Liam could support with was accessing and using the modern technologies now commonly used in job searches and applications. This included using web-based agencies, sending and receiving emails with attachments and checking voicemails.
On his experience within the Making A Difference programme, Adrian said:
“My future is now brighter and more secure. If not for this programme, I would not have had the tools to find employment without Liam’s help.”
His Employment Coach Liam said
“Adrian’s eagerness to find work shone through the first time we met. It has been a joy to see Adrian’s confidence grow.”
