Kaitlyn – Finding Work in the Veterinary Sector

Kaitlyn wears scrubs and a stethoscope around her neck. She smiles into the camera while holding a cat.28-year-old Kaitlyn from the Newcastle area had been unemployed and was looking for work within the veterinary jobs sector. She joined Making a Difference following a meeting with the National Careers Service which referred her to the programme.

Having been out of work for a long time made Kaitlyn unsure and “not feel confident in my skills”. However, she was determined to build her interview skills, apply for jobs and find work in the veterinary sector once again!

How Did We Help?

Kaitlyn was introduced to Olivia, an Employment Coach at Making a Difference. Together with Olivia, she identified her career goals along with gaps in her skill set and confidence.

Kaitlyn began working with Olivia to review her veterinary job applications and ensure she was always a suitable candidate. For this, they carefully checked all information listed on her CV, and then compared and adapted to each role and employer.

Also, they included specific keywords in Kaitlyn’s documents to boost the quality the overall application. Those keywords ensured that Kaitlyn would always hit the requirements and brought her closer to securing an interview.

Applying for Veterinary Jobs After a Career Break

Kaitlyn applied for a veterinary care position was soon invited for an interview. Together with Coach Olivia, she reviewed how to effectively use the STAR method and prepared questions to ask the interviewer.

These techniques helped Kaitlyn feel confident at her interview and we are delighted to share that she was ultimately offered the job!

Now moving into employment, Kaitlyn fondly looks back on her time at Making a Difference. She says the programme has changed her life and helped her to “get the job she has wanted”.

In addition, Kaitlyn feels the programme has changed her outlook, as she now knows what role she wants to do in the future and how she will get there.

To anyone considering joining Making a Difference, Kaitlyn says: “You should not be nervous and go for it, as the services do help.”

We wish Kaitlyn all the best for this new chapter in her career!
