Anton – From Volunteering to a Full-Time Job
Anton, aged 31 from County Durham, joined Making A Difference looking to progress from volunteering at a local charity shop. When he was first referred to the programme by the National Careers Service after meeting them at a jobs fair, He wanted to move into a paid full-time job.
However, Anton found himself lacking confidence being “impossibly far from the jobs market”. He was unsure of where and how to start this new chapter in his life.
Anton’s primary goal on the Making a Difference programme was to restore the confidence he had lost because of negative experiences with past employers. He also wanted to learn new skills in CV writing, job searching and interview techniques. Ultimately, his goal was to obtain full-time employment.
How did we help?
Anton met with James, a Making A Difference Employment Coach. He says that his work with James gave him the knowledge and confidence boost he needed. Especially to apply for a full-time job after being out of work long-term.
His efforts and aspirations paid off. With the support provided by the programme, Anton applied his newfound knowledge and skills to his job search.
His Coach James supported him with developing his CV and writing strong applications to best showcase his knowledge, skills and experience. James also supported Anton with all aspects of the job interview process and this left him feeling much more positive about interviews.
Anton has now achieved his overall goal and has secured a full-time job working for the National Careers Service as a Progression Coordinator. Looking back on his journey on the Making a Difference programme, Anton reports:
“I wouldn’t have thought it possible to have achieved so much and regained my lost confidence. The work I’ve done with James has reframed my view of job applications and interviews into a much more positive outlook. With that support, I achieved the best possible outcome in gaining sustainable employment, something I did not think was possible.
I can now look forward to the future and build my career again, I feel so much more hopeful about what’s to come and aim to progress into more advanced roles in the future.”
