Seeking work as a Ukrainian refugee: Dariia’s story
Dariia moved to the Newcastle area from her home country Ukraine after having been granted the right to live and work in the UK. She joined Making A Difference after being referred by the National Careers Service.
Dariia was in search of additional one-to-one employment support, with the goal of securing a role within her previous field as a Laboratory Technician. She met with Jordan, a Making A Difference Employment Coach, who introduced her to the support he could provide.
As she had been feeling anxious about restarting her career in the UK, Jordan listened to her concerns and was able to reassure her.
During their sessions, Dariia and Jordan developed her CV and cover letters and worked on interview technique. This helped to prepare Dariia for the interview she secured with one of the UK’s largest independent chemical analysis testing labs.
Dariia was successful in this interview and secured full-time employment as a Laboratory Technician. She has had a really positive start to her new role and believes the support she was able to get through the Making A Difference programme really helped her to secure this position.
About the programme and the support Jordan was able to provide, Dariia said:
“The support he provided was very structured, relaxed and Jordan taught me a lot of valued skills that have helped me on my way to securing full-time employment as a Laboratory Technician.
I really enjoyed the interview skills sessions in particular and it gave me a lot of confidence going into my interview with ChemTech. I would say to anyone who needs the same kind of help, this programme is worth your time, do not hesitate to access this excellent support. I have even recommended this programme to my friends – Jordan you are a super Employment Coach thanks for all your help.”
Her employment coach Jordan said:
“Working with Dariia has been an absolute pleasure. I have really enjoyed getting to know Dariia and helping to support her journey to success.
It has really made my day seeing just how much it means to Dariia securing employment so that she can begin to move on with her life.
As an Employment Coach, it is days like this that offer the ultimate reward. Dariia has settled well in her new job as a Laboratory Technician with ChemTech and now has her eyes firmly set on her future success.”
